3 Digital Scrapbooking Tricks for Your Halloween Pages

Halloween is a great opportunity for photos and telling a spooky story in your scrapbook pages. Today I thought I would share a few “tricks” for ways you can incorporate some fun techniques for Halloween themed layouts and pages using Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud. (Similar effects can also be done in earlier versions of Photoshop and Photoshop Elements). I started today making a few pages for the photos I hope to take over the next week so I could stay caught up on my scrapbooking!

1. Color Burned Blended Elements

In this digital scrapbooking page background, I used a few elements from various kits at Scrapvine.com and set them to Color Burn them to blend them into the background as well as adjusted the opacity a little (to about 70-80%) – I love the effect and am waiting for Halloween night to get some great pictures and add photos to this page in progress.

To achieve this effect in Photoshop, simply click on the layer and then where it says “Normal” choose “Color Burn” and where it says Opacity, adjust to about 70-80% until you are happy with the results.

2. Black & White: Desaturate Elements & Photos

One of my favorite ways to extend my digiscrap stash is to recolor and desaturate elements. While there are so many lovely Halloween kits out there to choose from, you can often times convert your existing embellishments to black and white to achieve new styles for matching dark Halloween themed pages.

In this example, I opened up my element and then went to Image -> Adjustments -> “Black and White”.

Then all you need to do is change the color sliders until you like the effect!

Here’s an example:

You can do this photos, elements, papers, alphas and more! My embellishment was light green and blue before, and now it’s the perfect color to match my Halloween pages!

The possibilities are endless when you start playing around with Black and White settings!

3. Mix & Match Funky Patterns

This is another page I started while I anxiously await Halloween to come for the photos this year! Here’s a preview of mixing and matching fun and colorful patterns:

The different patterns really play off each other and this will be fun to add photos to and embellish later! I couldn’t resist adding the spider to the page now!
